Galeria Mar Dulce: Limited Edition Posted on 28 Jun 01:15 , 0 comments
Galeria Mar Dulce is hosting a Limited Edition Print show featuring South American Print Makers, June 29th – 17th of August, 2013.
What is a limited edition? In the case of art, an edition is an artwork that exists in multiple form. The number of works in a limited edition is restricted and each is numbered and signed by the artist, eg. 1/10 being the first of ten.
Traditional printmaking is used to produce an original print in limited edition: an artwork that has been conceived of and that only exists as a print. Being hand produced the editions are small and much skill is required to produce the artwork. Our exhibition includes etchings by Delfina Estrada and Sofía Wiñazki, photopolymers by María Elina Méndez and Viky Vitar, screenprints by Irana Douer, Mariana Chiesa, Bianki and Pablo Cabrera, plus a lithograph by Liliana Porter.
In addition to the traditional manual techniques, the introduction of the high quality digital inkjet printing technique giclée has transformed the area of limited editions. Artists work entirely on computer to digitally create artwork and print an original giclée print in limited edition. Cristian Turdera is one of the most interesting artists working in this field today.
The technique of giclée has also caused a revolution for reproduction prints in limited edition (reproductions of works prexisting in another form, usually as paintings). Carlos Masoch, Isol, Decur, Ana Laura Pérez, Mercedes Dutto and Ral Veroni have all produced limited edition giclée reproduction prints for this exhibition. In Danieñ García’s edition each print has been individually intervened, making them unique within a varied limited edition.
We hope that this exhibition will open eyes to the possibilities that limited editions offer to own a work by a greatly admired artist who would normally be beyond our budget, to take a bet on an interesting emergent artist or simply to fill our walls with art that we love and whose company we will enjoy every day.
Galería Mar Dulce specializes in small and medium format artwork in painting, drawing, print, photography, artists’ books and objects, realized by contemporary and classic Argentine and Uruguayan artists.
