Buenos Aires Weekly Event Roundup: Sept 28 – Oct 4 Posted on 28 Sep 13:53 , 0 comments

A hand picked selection of our favorite things to see, eat, listen to, and dance with this week in Buenos Aires.

See An Art Show

Clear out Thursday evening because GIRA, Gallery Nights hipper little brother, will be host to art shows, live music and free Stella at twelve fantastic galleries through Villa Crespo and Palermo. It is impossible to choose a favorite with such an awesome line up but I’d recommend starting on the Villa Crespo end at La Ira de Dios and Gachi Prieto and working your way into Soho to visit Mar Dulce, the newly opened Honeycomb Gallery, and capping the night at cultural center/bar/venue/gallery CASA A and get weird (truly) with a live show by Tierra de Nadie – the experimental band that has tinges of grunge, 80s dance electro, jazz and house. Also in the zona but not part of the GIRA tour is the opening of La pepa en el mate (Acid in the mate), with illustrations by El Sike and Tu Vieja at El Universal. For the artsy academic, the MALBA will be hosting two days of free seminars and video projections related to art and design of the 1960s. You must sign up here.

Catch A Film

Director Julian Schnitman’s first feature length film El Incendio releases this week at the CC San Martin. The film follows a couple during a single day when tensions begin to arise between the couple as they are about to take a big step and buy their first house. To big French films will be getting their Argentine openings at Buenos Aires Mon Amour. Mia Love-Hansen’s Eden, about a group of young dj’s trying to navigate the Paris party scene, and (drum roll from the film geeks), Michel Gondry’s Moon Indigo. If the trailer is any indication, this movie leans more towards the fantastical Science of Sleep and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless MInd rather than the sad Green Hornet; the love story starring Audrey Tautou is about a man trying to find a cure for his girlfriend after she’s diagnosed with an unusual illness caused by a flower growing in her lungs. Tuesday and Wednesday the Gaumont will be wrapping up the final days of the International Turkish Film Festival, check out the line up here.

Let’s Party

If you didn’t get a chance to check out their show last weekend at G104, A. you missed out and B. you have another chance to catch a set by Los Animales Superforros this Wednesday at Rockin Rio. On the other side of town at Samsung Studio, Argentine duo Frikstailers will be coming in from their adopted Mexico City home to play a rare show. Space is limited, this show is kind of a big deal, and you 100% have to send your name in to be put on the entrance list:  bienvenidosaltropico@gmail.com. Saturday marks the first edition of Spring Beats, a party described as “good vibes, liquids and art.” Whelp, I’m sold. The secret house party will have live music by Marvin, SLNT and Moro with a dance set by DJ Niko Rizzo. Get the address via private message.

Check Out A Concert

If you can brave the gloomy weather, tonight (Monday) Santiago Motorizado (of El mato de un policia motorizado) will be playing a set at Camping. Camping is an outdoor space located on the patio of Buenos Aires Design, and the style is true to the name – picnic tables, a fire pit, beer and corn on the cob that comes with every order. For a grungy indie rock show, check out Prietto viaja al cosmos at the grungy indie rock venue La Sala over in Parque Centenario on Thursday. On Friday, downtown bar Ultra will be hosting their bi-weekly Club Wave, we’re excited to see the dream pop band Te King.
